THE VIOLIN CONCERTO MASTER LIST
THIS IS THE MASTER LIST OF VIOLIN CONCERTOS THAT EVERY ADVANCED LEVEL VIOLIN STUDENT MUST PRACTICE. IT IS ORGANIZED IN ORDER OF TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY AS WELL AS MUSICAL MATURITY REQUIRED. THE MASTER LIST PROVIDES A CLEAR BLUEPRINT TO GIVE THE STUDENT A SENSE OF CLARITY ABOUT HIS GOALS AND CHALLENGES. IT IS THE TREASURE MAP THAT WILL PROVIDE DIRECTION TO HIS OR HER EFFORTS IN THE QUEST TO MASTER THE ART OF VIOLIN.

THERE ARE MANY OTHER VERY IMPORTANT VIOLIN CONCERTOS THAT WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS LIST WHICH ARE CERTAINLY WORTH STUDYING SINCE THEY ARE TREASURES OF THE VIOLIN LIBRARY. THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF THE LIST IS TO PROVIDE THE STUDENT WITH THE CORE OF WHAT HE NEEDS TO FOCUS ON DURING HIS COLLEGE YEARS AND THEN BE FREE TO LEARN ANY OTHER PIECE THAT HE PLEASES. IN OTHER WORDS, THESE ARE THE MUST LEARN CONCERTOS.
WHAT MAKES A GOOD TEACHER
No matter what the subject is, a great teacher needs to have:
1. Vision...of the skills the student needs to learn.
2. Faith...in the student's ability to learn those skills.
3. Willingness...to guide his student in the direction of the goal.

IDEAL DAILY PRACTICE FOR ADVANCED VIOLIN STUDENTS:
The following is an example of a well balanced practice routine for an advanced level Violin student.
A. For average results:
15 to 30 minutes of Scales and Arpeggios (Galamian, Flesch)
15 to 30 minutes of Method or Etude (Kayser, Kreutzer, Fiorillo)
15 to 30 minutes of Concerto or Piece (See violin concerto master list post)
B. For above average results add this to A:
15 to 30 minutes of Unaccompanied Solo Bach (Sonatas and Partitas)
15 to 30 minutes of Solo or accompanied Piece (Kreisler, Sarasate, Wieniawski)
15 to 30 minutes of High Level Solo Piece (Paganin, Ysaye…)
C. For exceptional results and total musicianship add this to A and B:
15 to 30 minutes of Chamber Repertoire (if currently playing chamber ensemble)
15 to 30 minutes of Orchestral Repertoire (orchestral excerpts, audition standards…)
15 to 30 minutes of Listening of Solo, Chamber and Orchestral masterpieces
